The “Kermit meme“, sometimes also called, but somewhat different than, the “But That’s None of My Business” meme are wildly popular memes that seem to have exploded out of the dark realms of Instagram.
The Kermit ‘none of my business’ style is one of the most popular- but nowadays ‘Kermit memes’ refer to a whole genre of Kermit reaction memes.
Regardless, the original Kermit meme, catalyzed by the ‘but that’s none of my business’ type, was spread through a variety of image macro series. They featured Kermit the Frog from The Muppets and punchlines that made fun of a wide range of social miscues and problematic behaviors in common social situations.
The First One
Apparently it began on Instagram in 2014 when users began posting the now-infamous captioned images of Kermit the Frog using the hashtag “#kermitmemes” In June of that year, the first recognized Kermit image macro that employed the phrase “that’s none of my business” was highlighted by the @kermitbelike Instagram account in a post deriding the hair of certain “ratchet” women: (Source)

Here is another Kermit the Frog in a car meme. In this one, he’s witnessing his friend getting beaten up. Momentarily he’s concerned but then gleefully drives off after realizing that his friend had stopped tagging him in memes.
Lazy
We think that some of the best examples of this meme can be found on Instagram. Over there, there seems to be a lot of originality and creativity using the Kermit the Frog puppet to strike evocative and human-like poses. In this picture, we see Kermit splayed out on a pink comforter representing the feeling after picking up one sock. The bent legs and outstretched arms and vacant look in the eyes somehow capture the feeling of utter exasperation at having to clean up your room but utterly failing because of laziness.
Fake Scenarios
Another way we’ve seen this puppet arranged in an evocative way is to connotate dejection. In this one, the caption reads “me hurting my own Feelings by creating fake scenarios in my head.” Yet again, there is a relatable human likeness to the slumped shoulders and downcast eyes. It resonated pretty well on Instagram.
Still Hate ‘Em
Here’s another funny, messed up one. We see Kermit the Frog looking at his laptop, presumably on Facebook, with his hand propping up his chin as he scrolls around making sure that he still hates all the people he’s always hated.
Say My Name!
Once again, someone has masterfully arranged Kermit the Frog to make it seem as if he is taking sudden offense. The quote on the image is “when someone has said your name wrong at least four times in a row”. This is a great reaction meme as it looks like Kermit the Frog is about to jump up from the couch, but more likely is expressing frustration and consternation at an individual who might be intentionally forgetting his name.

There are a lot of variations of this popular Meme, and over in the out-of-the-loop subreddit, one person was confused about the origin of beat Kermit the Frog sipping tea meme.
One person explained by deferring to the popular site Know Your Meme witch explained that it emerged from the but that’s none of my business sarcastic PostScript that is appended after disrespectful remarks. Another redditor chimed in, saying that sipping tea is actually a colloquialism for gossiping in different cultures.

This is the worst version of the meme, according to a Redditor who posted it to terriblefacebookmemes.
