whomst’d’ve’ly’yaint’nt’ed’ies’s’y’es Meaning
Also known as Whomst, it is mainly used as a fake word in signaling ironic superior intelligence. It is quite similar to the ‘me’, which is basically an intellectual snowclone (Source).
According to Wikipedia, a snowclone is “a cliché and phrasal template that can be used and recognized in multiple variants. The term was coined as a neologism in 2004, derived from journalistic clichés that referred to the number of Eskimo words for snow.”
It first got polarity in the year 2017, in meme focused subreddits where different images pairing the words on the meme. The meme involved pictures of different people that were photo shopped to be seen with purple eyes. Since then, the Whomst meme grew bigger and bigger and trended in almost all meme platforms like subreditts. By the year 2018, this meme had spread its wings in almost every meme platform on the internet.
Origin Story
On the 2nd of June 2016, an Urban Dictionary user lightning guy crafted and presented a seemingly clear definition of “Whomst” to the Urban Dictionary (Source). The lightning guy’s definition read “for times when you want to ask ‘who or whom’, but need a fancier connotation”.
Well, this gave a clear picture of the steps taken to come with the final meme. After the June 2nd 2016 definition by lightning guy, the meme appeared once again on Instagram on 27th December 2016. This was posted by ‘fkinsnapss’ in a more sarcastic twist in captioning a video of a man walking while his pants were belted high on his waist:
At the same time, subtle X-files music buzzed smoothly on the background. This was the beginning of how the “Whomst” meme started taking the internet by a storm.
On January 21st 2017, another Instagram user b3pis took the understanding of the “Whomst” meme to another level, with four pictures clearly showing a boy getting increasingly pleased to different variations of “who”. The sequence ends with a purple eye’d flash reaction to the final “whomst’d” meme.
As of 1st January 2017, the meme had gained more than 2669 likes on Instagram alone. This was a clear sign that the “Whomst’d” meme would make ripples on the internet. To prove this, the image posted on Instagram set a clear precedent for other similar “Whomst’d” memes that were ultimately used in then #UpgradeChallenge.
In the memes, there were two different pictures clearly explaining what people in picture A do and subsequently people in picture B do to get the “Whomst’d” notation. There are numerous other variations of the “Whomst’d” meme that are a bit longer and nonsensical.

A good example are “Whomst’d’ve” and “Whomst’d’ve’s’nd” among others.whomst’d’ve’ly’yaint’nt’ed’ies’s’y’es
Among the most ingenious riffs on the internet today, whomst’d’ve’ly’yaint’nt’ed’ies’s’y’es is probably the most popular. It is basically an extension of the original riff including all other riffs that come along with it.
It serves the purpose of being used as an absurdly long word, or a mere joke. It became famous after the spread of the “whomst’d” meme by appearing on different posts on social media. To show its effect, Zekzgo added the pronunciation of the meme on his YouTube channel on March 3rd 2017.
Two days after adding the pronunciation, whomst’d’ve’ly’yaint’nt’ed’ies’s’y’es was added on to the Urban Dictionary on March 5th 2017.

Amazingly, there is even a petition to get this made up word recognized as an official word in the modern English dictionary. To date, if you head over to the website ipetitions.com, you can find a petition with over 3,000 supporters.
The viral T-shirt company TeeSpring also ran a campaign win the word and an emoji on a shirt- it was last available in August 2018. It’s such a long word without any spaces and it is that it sometimes breaks formatting on different websites, like Urban Dictionary. An absolute unit!
