Chances are good that people who spend a lot of time on the Internet have come upon some version of the Virgin vs. Chad meme at some point. If not, it consists of two very distinctive images of two very different individuals. The one on the left is a skinny man who is gazing downwards while wearing an unhappy expression.
Meanwhile, the one on the right is a muscular man who is gazing forwards while wearing a confident expression. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the left is supposed to represent some kind of pathetic behavior whereas the right is supposed to represent some kind of cool behavior, though there are versions that play with this generalization.
The Virgin vs. Chad meme came into existence on 4chan’s /r9k/ board on April 23 of 2016. The original version compared the “virgin walk” with the “Chad stride,” which were the supposed ways that male virgins and “Chads” walked about. For those who are unfamiliar, “Chad” is Internet slang for a sexually-active alpha male, so it should come as no surprise to learn that it started out as a term used by incels as well as other members of the manosphere.
However, it is important to note that the term has long since spread beyond such communities, with the result that it has taken on more general connotations of coolness. In any case, once the original version of the Virgin vs. Chad meme had been posted on the /r9k/ board, it wasn’t too long before it began spreading outwards, thus resulting in its numerous variations in the present time.
