If you’re a fan of Major League Baseball (MLB), you might have been told by a tech-savvy friend to check out Reddit for live streams (r/MLBStreams). While we don’t endorse piracy, we do see a lot of confusion about what exactly an MLB Reddit live stream actually is.
This guy will walk you through MLB Reddit streams, showing you how they work.
How r/MLBStreams Works
In a nutshell, before a game goes live, typically at the start of a baseball pregame show, Reddit users will post links to third party websites inside r/MLBStreams where you can watch baseball for free online.
These streams are not actually hosted on Reddit, but are hosted on third party websites that are heavily saturated with advertisements.
If you visit the forum when there is no ongoing game, it will look very empty. However, once the pregames and games themselves begin the forum will be populated with posts for each individual game containing links to where you can watch the baseball match-ups at no cost to you.
Generally, the moderation teams over on Reddit curate the best and most stable stream providers, prioritizing links to those third-party sites above newer stream submissions. This helps to ensure that the sites are better quality, but we always advise using an ad blocking extension before visiting these sites.
This will help to ensure that your browsing experience is higher quality, you’re not deceived with annoying pop-up ads, and it can possibly reduce the risk of malware infecting your computer, as well.
Streaming On Desktop
You can see below how to get an r/MLBStreams stream up and running on your desktop computer:
Streaming On Mobile
You can also stream on your smartphone- iPhones, Androids, Windows phones, etc. The Shevon Salmon YouTube account shows you how (jump link to the appropriate section of video at 3:05):
Is It Legal?
It’s definitely not legal for these websites to be live streaming content that typically you have to pay a cable subscription for, but they are very difficult for Major League Baseball to shut down.
We definitely advise our readers to invest in a Major League Baseball Subscription Service of some sort – whether that’s through a typical cable provider or some other platform. Though a lot of fans have issues with blackouts- the games not being viewable locally if they’ve purchased some sort of national subscription.
That said, if you don’t pay for the product, the product ends up suffering and everyone loses. Often times, these websites are shut down, but then they pop right back up again under a different domain name.
r/MLBStreams Streaming Recommendations
The top pinned post inside of the subreddit recommends three different ways that you can stream Major League Baseball. This includes using and MLB.TV account in conjunction with a service called Yonder.tv. They also, obviously, suggest the user posted screens inside of their subreddit. And the last option that they recommend is a service called Lazyman, Which is a desktop software application that enables Baseball fans to stream using their preferred desktop media player.
Full Game Replays?
There is also a popular post that they don’t delete, unlike the individual game threads, that provides resources for National and American League fans to rewatch full, old game replays. The top recommendation is to head over to YouTube where there are a variety of accounts dedicated to archived baseball footage. Another user suggests the website baseball.theater.
Affordable & Official Options
What’s your favorite MLB team? Mine is the St Louis Cardinals, and I live nowhere near Busch Stadium. That means there is no tuning into Fox Sports Midwest. And that’s only Cardinals games. ESPN and other cable broadcasting stations carry select games from time to time, but there are over 160 games to a season, for each team. If you’re a baseball fan, you know that, and you also know that you have to look past cable TV to watch more games and keep up with your favorite team.
Who wants to pay for extra cable TV channels when they don’t provide you with better access to baseball anyway? The solution is a streaming service online called MLB.tv. When you sign up with MLB.tv, you get to stream all the games, with a few exceptions. There are blackouts, but for the most part, you get to watch every game if you like.
And one great aspect of the streaming service is that you can watch them at your own convenience. If you keep up with sports, you will have to watch out for spoilers when watching games after they are over. Even with the spoilers, however, some fans like catching the games anyway, just to see the action and the big plays that were made.
I have an interesting story to tell you about MLB.tv. The site has been around for years because my story dates back to 2005. Along with the streaming service, you can buy digital downloads of specific games, too. At the time, I was frequenting Minute Maid Park, catching Cardinals vs Astros games whenever I could.
On my birthday, September 4th, 2005, I happened to catch Lance Berkman’s home run ball, #16 of the season, from the Crawford Boxes in left field. My mom told me when I got home that it showed me on TV. You know as well as I do that it can be a hit or miss when it comes to things like that.
Well, I wanted to see what it showed, so I looked up the game. I didn’t have an MLB.tv subscription at the time. I purchased the game, and I was able to see myself giving high fives to fans, albeit in a Cardinals t-shirt. It was quite a moment, one I will never forget.
There is also the option to get an MLB audio subscription. Truth be told, I’m cheap, and that was the subscription I held for a couple of years. I always enjoyed listening to Mike Shannon say ‘Get up baby, get up!’ That is his signature phrase when he is trying to will a ball over the fence.
Back in 2005, our Internet connection and the devices available to me weren’t sufficient for the MLB.tv subscription. Nowadays, I wouldn’t hesitate, and it’s the #1 way to watch all the MLB games that you can possibly have time for. You might not catch them all, but you can certainly watch to your heart’s content.
There are other links for unofficial sites that allow you to watch games by downloading this or that, but I wouldn’t bother if I were you. You could be downloading a virus or malware. Plus, you want a solution that allows you to watch whatever game you want to see at any time. You don’t want to be stuck finding the pirated link each time a game is coming on.
What’s more is an MLB.tv subscription isn’t all that expensive. The baseball season lasts from April through October, and of course, October is postseason baseball. You can pay by the month, or you can purchase the entire subscription at once. How you plan to opt-in is up to you, and there are also mid-season specials.
Let’s say you see your favorite team is making a run for the postseason after the All Star Break, and you say deal me in! You could buy a subscription for less at that point, and you could watch as many games as you like for the rest of the season. MLB.tv is the only real solution out there, and anything else you run across is fake and not worth your time. Take me out to the ballgame?
